Die-in at City Hall
|
We have been notified of an upcoming community action event. Details below!

Inspired by the Stop de Kindermoord protests in 1970s Amsterdam, Ann Arbor residents have decided to "die-in" in front of City Hall.

Bring your bike if you have one!

Yet another cyclist has been seriously injured on one of Ann Arbor's supposedly safe roads. This is far from the first serious injury or death at this intersection, yet there has been no action or even acknowledgement from City Council, city staff, or MDOT (who owns Jackson Ave). We need to stop focusing on long term solutions and fix our roads NOW! The Ann Arbor community has had enough with pedestrians/cyclists dying on dangerous roads. We call on Ann Arbor / MDOT / Washtenaw County Road Commission to rapidly deploy safety measures in response to traffic deaths, and demonstrate a tangible interest in actually reaching Vision Zero. How many more deaths do we need to contend with? The Ann Arbor Vision Zero plan wants to eliminate traffic-related deaths by 2050. However, there is no reason for vulnerable road users to have to put up with this for another 25 years. We don't need to wait to install the perfect solution when we can still also deploy low-cost temporary solutions NOW.

Join us for a July's community bike ride! We'll be pedaling slow 8 miles around Ann Arbor to take advantage of the long summer days. The ride will end at the Bandemer docks to hang out by the river and take a swim. Bring a picnic to enjoy in the park and a bathing suit if you plan on taking a dip in the Huron River, along with the usual lights and helmets.Everyone is welcome - this is a chill social ride, and we think you'll enjoy it. We'll have ride leads and sweeps safety, but as always, ride at your own risk. Our theme for this month is loud and lit. Interpret that however you wish! Maybe that means wearing your loudest outfit or adorning your bike with glow sticks. Maybe that means bringing along a musical instrument or a paper maché lantern. Use your imagination and come prepared for the most visible, audible Bike Party yet!
